Lets flip the coin a little bit. The temple. God wanted his temple so well designed, so perfect, so holy, that he wouldn’t let david build it because of the blood on his hands. Gods holy spirit through very talented artisans and craftsmen designed and built a structure that was most probably even more opulent then angor wat in its day. or the taj mahal. God isn’t a God of sub-quality merchandise. But he creates quality through us, whilst being just and wise and merciful to the broken and the homeless and the desperate.

Church buildings. You can look at them a few different ways. –

Practical – how do we fit 1000 people into a space to worship together.
A ministry base – Where do we stick out soup kitchen, our womens group, our youth group, our drop in centre, counselling etc etc etc.
A security blanket – Well lets focus on these 2000 people and forget about the hurting people outside.
Venue – hold gigs and other social community gatherings
Work of art –
Or in some places, we make our buildings so plain, so practical, just incase decorating it would be seen as idolatry or graven image loving.
Its a balance beam of, how do we honour each other with a meeting palce, whilst staying in a free and open attitude to reach out to others, to join in the rescue plan. Where does the tension find us? There’s definitely lines that show us that we stay insular too much.
But is there times where we reach out to the unreached too much? Why do we have church buildings?
