Fatalism is the idea that we have a life track that we are on until we die, and we can’t get off the track, so we may as well shrug our shoulders and take it. God knows what he is doing, so we should just submit to his will and apathetically wait till we die.
Thats Islam. Thats Buddhism. Thats the Indian caste system.
“I can’t improve my lot in life.”
But that isn’t what you find in the bible.
Firstly God gave us all incredible value. He said we were “good” at our creation. Gave us purpose – multiply. and then, when we stuffed it all up, he sent his son to make it right again and invited us into the family.
He gives us choice to sin. He gives us choice to believe. He gives us choice after choice after choice. We are not on some track that is uninfluenced by our choices.
If someone is stabbed to death, some people will shrug their shoulders and say oh well… must be Gods will.
Gods will is that we didn’t sin.
Gods will is that we are loving and nice to each other.
If Gods will is that we don’t get choice and we just have to wait to die, then we are just going to die. But if we choose life with God. If we choose what he created us for… We get life forever.
fatalism is dumb.
Yep. So good and true. What makes our God so unique is that he gives us hope for redemption and the power to change our circumstances around us.
